The Caribbean Natural Resources Institute (CANARI), on behalf of Saint Lucia’s Department of Sustainable Development, of the Ministry of Education, Sustainable Development, Innovation,
Science, Technology and Vocational Training, is seeking a National Project Coordinator to lead the implementation of a transformative nature-positive development project in Saint Lucia. This initiative aims to integrate ecosystem values into decision-making across the tourism, agri-food, and urban
sectors, driving policy change, stakeholder collaboration, and sustainable investment in NbS.

About the Role
As the National Project Coordinator you will occupy a key leadership role with responsibility for the overall coordination and execution of a nature-positive development project in Saint Lucia. The project integrates ecosystem values into decision-making across the tourism, agri-food, and urban sectors, with a strong focus on policy change, stakeholder engagement, and sustainable investment in nature- based solutions (NbS).
Reporting directly to a Project Manager at CANARI, the National Project Coordinator will oversee project implementation, manage the Project Coordinating Unit (PCU), liaise with national and local partners, and ensure compliance with technical, financial, and policy guidelines. The National Project Coordinator will also facilitate the development and execution of key environmental and social safeguards, stakeholder engagement plans, and a technical advisory committee to drive sustainable, resilient development in Saint Lucia. Some key responsibilities
- Oversee the execution of the project, ensuring alignment with technical, financial, and policy guidelines.
- Foster collaboration with government agencies, private sector partners, and local communities.
- Facilitate policy change and develop strategies to mainstream NbS into national planning.
- Support the design and execution of safeguards, ensuring responsible and inclusive project outcomes.
- Direct the PCU, ensuring timely delivery, monitoring, and evaluation.
Some key requirements
- A strategic thinker who can translate vision into action, driving long-term impact.
- A highly experienced professional with a strong background in project management and a post graduate degree in Agriculture, Agroforestry, Environmental Studies, Natural Resource Management, Sustainable Development or a related field.
- Proven ability to engage and coordinate multi-stakeholder initiatives across public and private sectors.
- Experience in influencing, developing, and implementing biodiversity conservation, protected areas, and/or land use policies, strategies, and plans, preferably in Saint Lucia or other Caribbean Small Island Developing States (SIDS).
- Experience working on projects with responsibility for ensuring adherence to technical, financial, and policy guidelines, as well as environmental and social safeguards.
- Demonstrated understanding of nature-based solutions and their applications in economic sectors with proven success in overseeing NbS projects from conception through execution.
