OFFICIAL PUBLIC NOTICE: CARIBE WAVE 26 TSUNAMI DRILL

SUBJECT: Tsunami Simulation Exercise

 The National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO), in coordination with Saint Lucia Met Services wishes to inform the public of the upcoming CARIBE WAVE 26 regional tsunami exercise. 

Exercise Schedule & Alert Methods 

On Thursday 19 March  2026, a simulated tsunami warning will be triggered across the island. Residents and visitors should expect the following: 

  • Mobile Alerts: Customers of Digicel and FLOW will receive a simulated emergency SMS alert on their mobile devices. 

  • Local Signals: In the participating communities of Laborie, Choiseul, and Vieux Fort South, residents may hear the sounding of sirens and the ringing of church bells. 

  • Evacuation Drills: Participating communities will practice moving to designated high-ground muster points. 

Important Safety Information 

  1. THIS IS ONLY A DRILL: There is no actual threat. These signals are part of a coordinated test to ensure our communication systems and response plans are functional. 

  1. Scenario: The exercise simulates a rapid-onset tsunami caused by a flank landslide of the Kick-’em-Jenny submarine volcano. 

  1. Public Cooperation: We ask the public to remain calm and follow the instructions of officials and emergency personnel during the exercise.
